The North Central JAC & Roofers Local #242 apprenticeship program is sponsored by both labor and management and supplies employers with highly skilled workers who apply quality roofing and waterproofing systems that keep America’s buildings dry.
Apprentices learn their craft by training on the job (paid) under proper supervision and by studying technical subjects related to the roofing trade at the training center. Once apprentices have learned the practical and technical aspects of the work, they graduate to journeyperson status.
The North Central JAC & Roofers Local #242 takes in applications year-round through WorkForce WV. Apprentices are accepted on an as needed basis.
Roofers Local Union 242 represents members who apply all types of roofing and waterproofing systems, including but not limited to: all low-sloped roofing systems, structural waterproofing, steep-sloped roofing systems and air barrier applications.
Our goal is to provide the safest and best-trained roofers in the industry for our signatory contractors with an emphasis on training, safety and cooperation.
Roofing apprenticeship programs generally run for three to five years with a total of 432 classroom hours and 6,000 work hours.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age. There is no maximum age.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of work, a substance abuse test will be rewquired.
There are no specific educational requirements to enter the program, however, applicants must be able to read and speak English in order to comprehend instruction and in related job activities to ensure safety on the job.
Applicants must be prepared to work at extreme heights and on sloping surfaces.
Applicants must be prepared to lift heavy materials and equipment.

In WV: Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Lewis, Monongalia, Marion, Pendleton, Pleasants, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wetzel, Wirt, and Wood.
In OH: Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Noble, and Washington
