If you’re nodding your head “yes” to the questions above, we encourage you to contact your local iron workers union about apprenticeship training programs in your area. An apprenticeship program will provide a way to achieve the success you’re looking for.
The Iron Workers Local 787 JAC will be accepting applications weekly on Wednesdays (except holidays) during regular business hours from 8:00AM to Noon and 1:00PM to 430PM.  Applications will be given out in person a the Union Hall.  Any change in contact information is the responsibility of the applicant.
The following are the minimum requirements.  Lack of any one of these will automatically disqualify the applicant.

Minimum age of 18 years. -proof required-
Must be capable of doing work of the Iron Worker trade.
Must be a High School graduate or have equivalent certificate (GED).
Mus have a valid Driver’s License.
Must score a passing grade on the TABE test given by WorkForce WV.
Must live in the jurisdictional area of the Iron Workers Local 787, Parkersburg, WV for at least one (1) year previous to applying for this Program.
If selected for the Apprenticeship program, the candidate must submit to and pass the Substance Abuse Test used by the Parkersburg-Marietta Contractors and Trades Education and Development Fund.  the Iron Workers Local 787 JAC will pay the cost of the test.

This is a three year program.  204 hours of related classroom training shall be required each year.  For more information regarding qualifications click here.
The jurisdictional area covered by Iron Workers Local 787 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers is as follows:
WEST VIRGINIA:   Boone, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Jackson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mingo, Nicholas, Pleasants, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Roane, Upshur, Webster, Wirt, Wood, and Wyoming Counties, and the southern portion of Randolph County.
OHIO:    Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Noble, and Washington Counties.
VIRGINIA:   Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise Counties
KENTUCKY:   Pike County
An Important Note
It is important to mention that an ironworker must be willing to work in high places, have a good sense of balance, and be alert to potential danger to themselves and others. However, the apprenticeship program includes safety training with OSHA certified instructors so that the danger is minimized.

The Recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin or sex.  The JATC will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunities in apprenticeship and training and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under Title 29 of the code of federal regulations, Part 30.
